Tucked in the old quarters of Agra, this fading structure tells a powerful story of vision and philanthropy.
The stone plaque on its weathered arch proudly bears the names of its founders:
Sah Baboo Pannilall and Ganga Prashad Seth – 1891
They were prominent members of the Vaishya (trading) community, and they built this boarding hostel over 130 years ago — a time when young students had to travel far for education. This hostel gave them a safe and respectful space to stay while studying in Agra, which was emerging as a hub of trade, learning, and culture.
Today, the structure may be forgotten and worn by time, but it still stands as a symbol of the community’s commitment to education, unity, and service.

वैश्य बोर्डिंग हॉस्टल, आगरा – साह बाबू पन्नीलाल व गा. गा. प्रसाद सेठ द्वारा निर्मित (1891)
आगरा के पुराने मोहल्ले में स्थित यह ऐतिहासिक इमारत आज भी दूरदृष्टि और दानशीलता की मिसाल है।
इसके मेहराब पर अब भी एक पत्थर की पट्टिका लगी है, जिस पर लिखा है:
“साह बाबू पन्नीलाल व गंगा प्रसाद सेठ – 1891”
इन दोनों प्रतिष्ठित वैश्य समाज के व्यक्तियों ने इस वैश्य बोर्डिंग हॉस्टल की स्थापना लगभग 134 वर्ष पूर्व की थी — जब छोटे शहरों व गांवों से छात्र शिक्षा के लिए आगरा जैसे शहरों में आते थे। उस दौर में यह हॉस्टल ऐसे छात्रों को सुरक्षित आवास और सांस्कृतिक परिवेश देता था।
आज यह भवन चाहे पुराना हो गया हो, लेकिन इसकी दीवारों में आज भी समर्पण, सेवा और समाजिक उत्थान की कहानियाँ छुपी हैं।
एक भूला‑बिसरा धरोहर… जिसे फिर से पहचानने की ज़रूरत है।
