This is the place where Barbarik gave his head to Lord Krishna, and from that moment onward he came to be worshipped as Shyam Baba, famously known as Khatu Shyam Ji.
Barbarik was the grandson of Bhima and the son of Ghatotkacha. He possessed three divine arrows capable of changing the fate of any war, yet remained bound to his vow of compassion — to always support the side that was losing.

THE SACRIFICE
Barbarik, a warrior with the power to win any battle, posed a threat to the balance of the Kurukshetra War. To ensure fairness and protect dharma, Lord Krishna asked for his head as a sacrifice. Without hesitation, Barbarik bowed before Krishna and offered his life with complete devotion.

THE BLESSING
Deeply moved by Barbarik’s supreme sacrifice, Krishna blessed him with eternal honor. He declared that in Kaliyuga, Barbarik would be revered as Shyam Baba, the divine guardian who grants the wishes of his devotees.

THE LOCATION
It is said that this divine act took place at the site of present-day Chulkana Dham in Panipat, which today serves as a major pilgrimage destination for followers of Shyam Baba.

THE TREE
A sacred peepal tree still stands at Chulkana Dham, believed to be the one Barbarik pierced through all its leaves with a single arrow. Devotees say the leaves still carry tiny holes. Visitors perform parikrama, tie sacred threads, and pray beneath this ancient tree for blessings.

यही वह पवित्र स्थान है जहाँ बर्बरीक ने श्रीकृष्ण को अपना शीश अर्पित किया था, और उसी क्षण से वे श्याम बाबा — अर्थात प्रसिद्ध खाटू श्याम जी — के रूप में पूजित हुए।
बर्बरीक पांडव पुत्र भीम के पौत्र और घटोत्कच के पुत्र थे। उनके पास तीन दिव्य बाण थे, जिनसे वे किसी भी युद्ध का परिणाम बदल सकते थे। फिर भी वे अपनी प्रतिज्ञा — सदैव हारने वाले का साथ देने — के प्रति पूर्णतः समर्पित थे।

बलिदान
बर्बरीक एक ऐसे योद्धा थे जो किसी भी युद्ध को अकेले जीत सकते थे। इससे कुरुक्षेत्र युद्ध का संतुलन बिगड़ सकता था। धर्म की रक्षा के लिए श्रीकृष्ण ने उनसे उनके शीश का दान माँगा। बर्बरीक ने बिना किसी संकोच अपना शीश अर्पित कर दिया।

वरदान
बर्बरीक के इस अद्वितीय बलिदान से प्रसन्न होकर श्रीकृष्ण ने उन्हें वरदान दिया कि कलियुग में वे श्याम बाबा के रूप में पूजित होंगे और भक्तों की समस्त मनोकामनाएँ पूर्ण करेंगे।

मान्यता है कि यह दिव्य घटना आज के चुलकाना धाम, पानीपत में घटी थी। आज यह स्थान श्याम भक्तों के प्रमुख तीर्थों में से एक है।

पीपल का वृक्ष
चुलकाना धाम में एक प्राचीन पीपल का वृक्ष आज भी विद्यमान है। कहा जाता है कि बर्बरीक ने एक ही बाण से इसके सभी पत्तों में छेद कर दिए थे, और भक्त आज भी इन पत्तों पर सूक्ष्म छिद्र देखते हैं। लोग इस वृक्ष की परिक्रमा करते हैं, धागे बाँधते हैं और मनोकामनाएँ माँगते हैं।
