It would not be an exaggeration to call it the Taj Mahal of Dholpur, as it too symbolizes the depth of love and devotion, built by Maharaja Bhawant Singh of the Dholpur princely state. Maharaja Bhawant Singh was an emotional man. In 1836, when he ascended the throne, a prominent official named Syed Muhammad served in his court. Syed had a daughter named Gajra, who was exceptionally beautiful. The Maharaja first laid eyes on her during a dance performance in the court. Captivated by Gajra's beauty, the Maharaja fell deeply in love with her, and Gajra too was smitten at first sight. Their love blossomed over time. The Maharaja wanted to marry Gajra, but Syed Muhammad refused his request. Undeterred, Maharaja Bhawant Singh continued to pursue Gajra. After much effort, he eventually married her. Gajra was not only an excellent dancer but also a skilled administrator, which allowed her to play a significant role in the governance of the state. Her decisions were respected and accepted in the royal court. However, this led to opposition from the nobles of the Dholpur state. Yet, no one dared to act against Gajra in the presence of the Maharaja, who had become completely dependent on her. Historian Mukesh Suthail explains that Maharaja Bhawant Singh wished to create an everlasting symbol of his love for Gajra, which is why he decided to construct a beautiful building near the Narsingh Temple in 1855. This building, inspired by the Taj Mahal, features white and red stones, with a tomb placed in the center. This centuries-old tomb is now famous across the country as "Gajra's Tomb." It is noteworthy that the construction of Gajra's Tomb cost about 1 million rupees at that time, and Gajra passed away around 1859. गजरा ताजमहल: जानिए धौलपुर के महाराज की अनोखी प्रेम कहानी, जिन्होंने गजरा को दिया दिल और फिर बनवाया 'ताजमहल' गजरा ताजमहल: जब प्यार की बात की जाती है तो आगरा के ताजमहल का ख्याल सबसे पहले मन में आता है. क्योंकि ताजमहल शाहजहां के प्यार की निशानी कहा जाता है. इसे उन्होंने अपनी प्रेमिका मुमताज की याद में बनवाया था. लेकिन आज हम आपको राजस्थान के उस राजा की कहानी बताने जा रहे हैं जिन्होंने ना सिर्फ अपने प्यार से शादी की बल्कि उनके नाम से एक ताज भी बनवाया. चलिए बताते हैं राजस्थान में कहां है ये ताजमहल...... दरअसल राजस्थान के धौलपुर जिले के महाराणा स्कूल परिसर में करीब डेढ़ सदी पहले गजरा का ताज बनाया गया था. इसे अगर धौलपुर का ताजमहल कहा जाए तो कोई अतिश्योक्ति नहीं होगी. क्योंकि ये भी प्यार की गहराई और समर्पण की निशानी है. जिसे धौलपुर रियासत के महाराजा भगवंत सिंह. महाराजा भगवंत सिंह बहुत ही इमोशनल इंसान थे. साल 1836 में जब वो राजगद्दी पर बैठे तो उनकी यहां एक प्रमुख अधिकारी थे सैयद मुहम्मद. सैयद की एक बेटी थी जिसका नाम गजरा था. गजरा बहुत ही सुंदर थी. जिसे महाराज ने पहली बार दरबार में हो रहे मुजरे के वक्त देखा था. गजरा की खूबसूरती देख महाराज उनके दीवाने हो गए थे. वहीं गजरा भी महाराज को देखते ही अपना दिल दे बैठी थी. दोनों का प्यार धीरे-धीरे परवान चढ़ता गया. इसके बाद महाराजा भगवंत सिंह, गजरा को अपनी पत्नी बनाना चाहते थे. इसके लिए उन्होंने सैयद मुहम्मद से इजाजत मांगी, जिस पर उन्होंने महाराज को इनकार कर दिया. लेकिन महाराजा भगवंत सिंह ने हार नहीं मानी और कोशिश करते रहे. काफी कोशिशों के बाद आखिर महाराज की गजरा से शादी हो गई. बता दें कि गजरा बहुत अच्छी नर्तकी होने के साथ-साथ एक कुशल प्रशासक भी थी. इसी कुशलता के चलते गजरा का राजकाज में भी दखल बढ़ता गया. गजरा का हर फैसला रियासत को मान्य था. लेकिन ये सब देख धौलपुर रियासत के सरदारों ने विरोध करना शुरू कर दिया. हालांकि महाराज के होते हुए किसी की गजरा के खिलाफ कुछ करने की हिम्मत नहीं हुई. वहीं महाराजा गजरा पर पूरी तरह आश्रित हो चुके थें. इतिहास के जानकार मुकेश सूतैल बताते हैं कि भगवंत सिंह अपनी प्रेयसी गजरा के लिए एक अमिट प्रेम निशानी बनाना चाहते थे, इसलिए उन्होंने जिले के नृसिंह मंदिर के पास 1855 में एक खूबसूरत इमारत बनवाने का निर्णय लिया. ताजमहल की तर्ज पर बनी इस इमारत में सफ़ेद और लाल पत्थर लगाए गए है. इसके बीच में मकबरा स्थापित किया गया. सदियों पहले बना ये मकबरा आज पूरे देश में 'गजरा का मकबरा' नाम से फेमस है. बता दें कि साल 1859 के आसपास गजरा का इंतकाल हो गया. बताते चलें कि 'गजरा का मकबरा' बनवाने के लिए उस वक्त करीब 10 लाख रुपए खर्च किए गए थे.
